Sunset Hill Farm

About Us

A Little Bit of Countryside
Worth Slowing Down For.

At Sunset Hill, we believe some of the best days are the ones that aren't rushed. Set atop
our rolling hill overlooking the Appalachian Mountains, our farm is a place to step away
from the everyday for a while — to cut flowers, walk the wooded trail, find a quiet place
to rest, and stay long enough to watch the sun disappear beyond the fields.

— HOW IT STARTED —

Our Story

Founded in 2025, Sunset Hill Farm offers a unique customer experience centered on our 1/2 acre flower bed. Flanked to the north by a dense cedar forest our flower field offers a one-of-a-kind view of the Appalachian mountain ridge to the west.

The view from our hill never seems to be the same. We feel we have the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets in the area. Mid-day views can be stunning as well with unique and changing cloud formations that form as various fronts pass through the area.

— OUR PRODUCTS —

More than a flower farm

Sunset Hill is intended to be more than a flower farm. We're slowly expanding to offer specialty agriculture products that include Honey, Hybrid Chestnuts, premium cedar heartwood chips, and pumpkins in the fall.

While Zinnias and other flowers are the anchor for our specialty agriculture operation, we have planted over 200 Hybrid Chestnut trees. Planted in April of 2026, our trees are doing well, but we don't expect production for another 5 years or so. Our Chestnuts will be sold organic direct to the consumer. With the exception of fertilizer, We have never and will never use pesticides or any other chemicals on our fields.

We also plan to offer organic local Honey. We are painstakingly grooming our entire 40 acre property to support healthy bee colonies. That means tending not only to our commercial flower bed, but developing a robust and healthy wildflower population. Currently, our south fields is glowing with so much bright Golden Rod that the collective buzz of the honey bees can be easily heard on a quiet evening. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in trapping a swarm this year. There are easier ways to start a honey operation, but we believe the best and healthiest results are had through trapping local bees.

Updates for this product will be made through the blog page on our website from time-to-time. Our long-term goal is to grow thoughtfully — creating spaces, experiences, and agricultural products people enjoy.

— LIFE BEYOND THE FIELDS —

Where Flying Meets the Farm

For nearly two decades, aviation has been a big part of my life. As a commercial pilot flying private jets, my career has taken me to places near and far, often moving at a pace measured in mach numbers, miles, minutes, and schedules. Sunset Hill offers something very different.

Here, the pace is set by the seasons. Flowers bloom when they're ready. Trees take years to grow. Trails wind through the woods with nowhere in particular you need to be. Aviation is still very much part of life at Sunset Hill. A 1300' grass runway stretches across the center of property, bringing together my love of flying and my love for this land. Seeing an airplane parked beside a field of flowers may be a little unexpected, but around here, it somehow makes perfect sense. Flying has given me the opportunity to see the world. Farming has given me a reason to appreciate one small piece of it. And perhaps that's what Sunset Hill is really about — having a place to land, stay awhile, and enjoy where you are.

More Than Something to Take Home

We hope you visit Sunset Hill for more than something to take home. Cut a bucket of flowers. Walk our roughly 1/2 mile wooded trail. Find a comfortable spot to rest. Let the kids explore. Watch the light change across the fields as afternoon turns to evening. And if you happen to be here when the sun begins to set, don't be in too much of a hurry to leave.

After all, Sunset Hill is a little bit of countryside worth slowing down for.
